Hi, I'm MacKensie Cornelius
I work at the intersection of community resilience, climate adaptation, emergency management, and public participation.Throughout my career, I have supported communities facing complex challenges, from natural hazards and climate impacts to recovery, adaptation, and relocation. My work spans federal emergency management, hazard mitigation, cultural resource stewardship, climate resilience, and community engagement across the United States and New Zealand.I am particularly interested in how communities navigate difficult decisions about risk, change, and uncertainty. As climate impacts increase and communities face growing pressures to adapt, relocate, or transform, effective processes become just as important as technical solutions. My role is often to bridge research and practice, helping organizations design strategies, engagement approaches, and decision-making processes that support resilient and equitable outcomes.
Current interests include:
• Community resilience and capacity building
• Climate adaptation
• Public participation in complex decisions
• Community relocation and receiving communities
• Emergency management and hazard mitigation
• Research-practice partnershipsBased in Christchurch, New Zealand.
